London Fashion week!!!!

Sept 16th-Sept 23rd saw some of the biggest names in fashion come together to showcase their SS12 collections. Our girl Hella was backstage working as a nail technician(As part of the Jenny Longworth team) at a few shows. Whilst there, a few big trends were observed and relayed to the PinkCrust camp. we’ll let a few out of the bag and say that metallics and monochrome black & White zebra print were very prevalent….but if you want to be at the forefront of fashion in the talon department then you’ll have to come into the salon for a SS12 manicure!!!!

Xoxo

beautiful brides go for stunning eyes!

We’ve been busy over  the summer period tending to many brides and the biggest trend by far is the subtle smokey eye.  As lips Can wear away very easily throughout the day many brides have chosen to emphesise their eyes as a way of keep their make up at full effect for the whole day.

top tips to remeber for wedding make up

1. Waterproof mascara ALWAYS!

2. Stay away from fashion trends- You may end up looking very dated  in a decade or so when you look back on your pictures

3.Wear what will make you comfortable- As confidence will always compliment your look!

4. Fake lashes are a total MUST, you will kick yourself if you dont wear them

For bridal trial make up drop us a line at the salon to discuss your big day make up. xoxo

Stilla winner!

Make up favourite stilla has made a return to the UK AND is now more accessible than ever! There are six wearable colours available at boots and boots online. Number 1 in this range for us pinkcrust girlies is the uber versatile Convertable colours for lips and cheeks £16.
We love it because…. This Can be worn under lip gloss, can be added on top of make up(cheeks of course) during the day for an instant make up boost, as the clours are close to sheer the texture and tones give an incredible dewiness to you skin.

PC rating 5/5

2 min Top tips for toes

Summer is on our doorstep! And of course pedi’s are on the rise! Thus meaning ‘my feet are a state’ comments are on the increase. Since no one ever has the time to spend longer than 2 mins on their feet here are some quick sure-fire ways to ok looking feet.
pumice stones in the bath or shower-use all you strength to give hard skin areas a good scrub, this is very effective in the long run. Do this every other day if possible

Foot scrubs removes dead skin cells and moisturise, doing this every other day is a good idea

Moisturise (natural oils such as almond oil and olive oil are great for feet) a very underrated tool in preventing callous

A monthly visit to PC for a ‘proper pedi’ is highly recommended. Why? No bladed tools are used, so skin is not cut and left to repair itself causing further hard skin AND it’s just plain relaxing!

some more tips……

Soaking feet in warm water with vinegar or lemon(you shold surely be able to find these things in your cpboard somewhere!) helps kill, bacteria underneath nails and also whiten nails, we wont go into the technic of this but this really works

Sally Hansons just feet spa Sugar scrub is excellent for moisturising feet and smoothing them, we definitely recommend this product.

Oscar nails

Having studied the red carpet celebrity nails, we have concluded that nude nails was the trend of the day (and most likely the next coming months)….

Which promptly reminded us of our ‘ no fail’ french mani favourite Orly’s Angel face. Why? consistency is  “creamy” giving good coverage and the colour absolutely results in perfect looking clean and tidy nails. Excellent worn alone or with a white tip! however it was duely noted that Anne Hathaway’s natural nails were down to high-end brand Deborah Lippmann polish in ‘I dreamed you’. However if you need to get your hands on a cheaper high street alternative, we highly recommend Bourjois ‘so laque’ in ‘rose Lounge’-it offers excellent shine, longevity, superb consistency, wide brush for easier coverage…guess you catch our drift, get this!!

PinkCrust @ London Fashion week

As london fashion week kicked off on february 18th 2011, Pinkcrust Director, Hella, was backstage working in the Jenny Longworth team doing some fab nails for Felder felder!

The color in question was a custom blend of the nail girls brand creating a ‘grey-taupe-beige’

“hair and make up was kinda manic, but Jenny’s nail team just breezed through without any real hiccups. The look was really understated, it was a perfect compliment to the hair and make up, I loved it! it was  great working with Jenny too”- hella

The PinkCrust team are looking forward to spilling the beans on ss/11’s  hottest nail trends!!!

Just some PC advice…..

A good make up base is…..??? To us girlies at PinkCrust the answer to this is really obvious, but not always to others.

It’s Good skin!  Skin is what your make up sits on so it’s therefore very important for your base to be smooth in order to achieve a smooth look after make up is applied. exfoliation three times a week, cleansing, toning & moisturising for the long-term is of course a must to KEEP skin up to par. Yet many of our customers are admitting to NOT moisturising everyday BUT still wearing make up everyday!!! (confusion, shock, horror…no…seriously) As a result of this knowledge we’d like to say

“Skipping the cleansing and moisturising, is just not cool”

In any case we’ve got three fab primers, that really make a difference to how long your make up last and aid in smooth application, enhanced glow and finer pores.                    Bobbi brown vitamin enriched face base, doubles up as a moisturiser, even worn without make up keeps the face matt and smooth looking as well as smelling gorgeous. Very good for daily use. This primer is by far our favorite and regularly used for our bridal make up too.                          YSL top secrets flash radiance. The pearly reflective pigments work very well to add a little highlighting. This product’s very mattifying, perfect for evening looks we think. Laura Mercier foundation primer, is lightweight and absorbs very quickly, it definitely keeps make up on all day and gives a very smooth finish to your make up.  BTW….We’re loving Ms Campbell’s flawless and radiant skin in the latest edition of Russian GQ, who is looking magnificent at 40 (we’re sure she doesn’t skip on her moisturising, toning and exfoliating!!!)

Tried, Tested and regularly used

We’ve been fully booked and totally run off our feet from opening to closing this Halloween weekend. So it’s been eat work and sleep for us all and It’s times like these when it’s most difficult to stick to a beauty routine-which you must do!!! Here are some products that have kept us “looking the part”(all products mentioned are based on the results of OUR regular use)

Shu Uemura cleansing oil-Do not be fooled by the oily consistency, it really does clean all traces of make up, however heavy. This cleansing oil certainly does not dry or clog skin , it is not harsh yet destroys spots and even helps to regulate skin to a perfect balance, it’s totally perfect for the coming winter. The eesult of using this product is clear and hydrated looking skin.

Verdict-A necessity for all!

Guerlain’s Issima Midnight Secret- Yep, this works. Not cheap but it does what it says on the bottle. Not getting enough sleep is always obvious on the skin, with this stuff it wont be. Even after one use, Pores look smaller and skin looks revived.

verdict -A Very handy product after a late night or to use as a skin ‘pick me up’

Dr Sebagh Azlaeic acid- Another ‘gooden’. This product acts like a mini at home peel. Just apply and leave it for five minutes, it exfoliates, tightens, brightens and eventually fades blemishes. It’s a ‘pricey’ mask BUT you can throw away a lot of other useless products on your dressing table for this one because it does so much! moisturiser even goes on better after use too.

Verdict-We even use it in the salon…

Bikini, Brazillian and Hollywood

It appears not many of our first time ‘waxers’ are aware of  the differences! or at least are not entirely sure of the variations, let us explain…..

Bikini everything outside of the Standard knicker line and a touch in inside of the knicker line.

Brazilian-Typically Hairs removed from front and back removed, with a thin strip of hair remaining at the top front.

Hollywood-All off!

However, the above options are not suited to everyone’s preference, so many salons offer a high bikini(as we do at PC), which hovers between a bikini and brazilian. The result is a thick strip 3/4 down from the top, with all back removed

so there you have it…the bikini wax guide!!!!
